The use of the portal site www.checkdoc.be is subject to the conditions of use below. By using www.checkdoc.be, you accept these conditions of use.

1. Aim and contents of the portal site www.checkdoc.be .

1. By activating the portal site www.checkdoc.be, the Belgian State, represented by the Minister of the Interior, provides a system which makes it possible to check the administrative status of an identity document issued by the Belgian authorities, in order to provide the user with information on whether that document is doubtful or not.
2. The portal site www.checkdoc.be aims at preventing identity fraud in every transaction in which an identity document is used by the parties to establish the identity.
3. Therefore, this website refers to different sources of information. These data files are fed by the data and declarations transmitted by the documents holder, as well as by the administrative authorities concerned.

2. Definitions.

1. www.checkdoc.be: the portal site aiming at checking identity documents.
2. Document's holder: the person who presents the identity document which is subject to a request in the portal site www.checkdoc.be by the user.
3. Document's owner: the person who is the owner of the document which is subject to a request in the portal site www.checkdoc.be by the user
4. Service provider: the Belgian State, represented by the Minister of the Home Affairs and responsible for the portal site www.checkdoc.be .
5. User: the natural person or legal entity making a request on the portal site www.checkdoc.be .
6. Check request: operation by which the user checks, on the portal site www.checkdoc.be, a document which is presented to him by its holder.
7. Hit: message sent to the user by the portal site www.checkdoc.be when the document which is subject to the check request, is known by the Belgian administrative authorities as stolen, lost, expired or invalid or when a document with that number has not been issued by those authorities.
8. No Hit: message sent to the user by the portal site www.checkdoc.be when the document which is subject to the check request, has indeed been issued by a Belgian administrative authority and is not known as stolen, lost, expired, invalid or non issued.

3. Restrictions of use of the portal site www.checkdoc.be .

1. The service provider takes all possible steps to provide the user with updated and correct information. In spite of all the efforts of the service provider, this information can contain data that are not necessarily universal, complete, precise or updated.
2. The user must take into account that those data can be incomplete or expired and that the answer of the portal site www.checkdoc.be to a check request cannot reasonably be the only basis for its decision to identify a person when signing a contract, selling, renting or in case of any other commercial or administrative transaction.
3. The user must take into account that the portal site www.checkdoc.be does not allow him to detect certain false documents and that making a check request does not replace a cautious and careful examination of the identity document. In order to prevent the use of false documents, the user is asked to consult the heading "Document securities" on the portal site www.checkdoc.be . The user must consider the possibility that the holder of an identity document does not inform the helpdesk - created by the service provider - immediately after the document has been lost or stolen.
4. Therefore, the service provider cannot be held responsible either for the incomplete or non-updated nature of the information that has been sent AND processed during the check request.
5. The service provider cannot be held responsible for any kind of damages resulting from the use of the portal site www.checkdoc.be by the user (for example: virus, damage to the files, loss of programs or other data; direct damages, loss of profit, etc.).
6. The service provider cannot be held responsible for technical interruptions or for the possible damages as a result of those interruptions.
7. The portal site www.checkdoc.be is exclusively created to provide information on the administrative status of official identity documents issued by the Belgian authorities.
8. Under no circumstances can the user reproduce, share, communicate this information in whichever way, or use it for other purposes than those mentioned in 1. of these conditions of use.
9. In accordance with the law of December 8th, 1992 on the protection of privacy with regard to personal data processing, no other information than Hit or No Hit will be provided by the service provider concerning the checked document. The origin of a Hit answer is not given to the user. Not any personal data is processed by the service provider when dealing with a check request.

4. Obligations when using the portal site www.checkdoc.be .

• The user must inform the holder of the document that a check request will be lodged with the portal site www.checkdoc.be concerning the identification number of the presented document.
